Tamilnadu is located on the southern part of India. It is bounded by the Bay of Bengal on the east, and by Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh states on the other three sides.

The present day Madurai, Virudunagar, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai, Sivagangai and Tirunelveli districts of Tamilnadu were part of the region referred to as Pandiya Naadu during the days when the Teveram Hymns were sung by the Nayanmars.

Rameswaram is one of the 12 Jyothilingams, that is in Tamilnadu. All the other 11 jyothirlingams are situated in North India.
The temples where Shiva is believed to have performed his dance with fury are referred as Ashta Veeratta Sthalangal. All the eight temples are situated in Tamilnadu and are located in these places.
