About the Temple

Inside the Thirumeeyachur Meghanathaswamy Temple, on the northern prakaram, there is a separate temple known as the Tiru-Meeyachur Ilankovil. Here, the presiding deity Sakala Bhuvaneswarar faces east, while Goddess Mekhalambikai faces south, each enshrined in separate sanctums. These two sanctums are often found closed.

In the 6th verse of his pathigam, Appar refers to the Goddess of this temple as Minnu Mekhalaiyal. Around the sanctum, in the goshta, Chaturmukha Chandikeswarar is seen in the place where Durga is usually found.

Pathigam

The pathigam composed by Thirunavukarasar (Appar) is found in the 5th Thirumurai.
